Top 5 Myspace Marketing Tips for Businesses on a Budget

Written by Lock on November 13, 2008 – 10:45 pm

Author: Jennifer Lange

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand we live in a social networking world.   Businesses of all sizes have quickly caught on to the importance of having a presence at websites like MySpace and Facebook for a number of reasons.  From the sheer volume of traffic these sites attract to the demographic diversity of their users, smart marketing professionals consider social networking a significant part of their branding efforts.

Contrary to popular belief, having a substantial presence at a site like MySpace, for example, doesn’t necessarily require a substantial budget. As a matter of fact, there are a number of easy-to-follow marketing tips businesses can follow to have a commanding MySpace presence, for pennies on the dollar.

1.    Create a MySpace Layout that showcases your business.    A clean and attractive MySpace layout that includes your company name and a description of your products and services is essential in marketing yourself to the MySpace crowd.   When you consider that one of the most popularly searched phrases on the Internet today is “MySpace Layouts”, you’ll understand just how important this tip is.  Aside from the popularity of social networking itself, the second fastest growing trend is customization, or the art of being able to decorate your profile with cool layouts, backgrounds, pictures, graphics and video and music applications that convey your likes and dislikes and, in essence, your overall personality to the friends who visit your page.   It’s no different if you’re a business.  Posting a layout to your MySpace page, one that clearly conveys who you are and what you do, speaks volumes to the people visiting your profile – people who may very well become your customers.   Look online to find websites that offer custom layouts and incorporate your company’s information and graphics into the elements of your layout design, including backgrounds, extended network banners and boxes within the layout such as contact tables.  Whatever you do, keep it simple. Cluttered and confusing layouts lose their branding effectiveness.

2.  Add MySpace friends who fit the demographic profile of your customers.    MySpace has a nifty feature that allows you to browse for friends by age, gender and relationship status.  Use this tool to locate friend prospects that fit the demographic profile of your target customers and reach out to those prospects with friend requests.  When you add friends who you believe will be most interested in learning of and receiving information about your products and services, you increase your chances of gaining new customers through targeted marketing.   Be sure to communicate important company news such as discounts and special deals or the launch of new products and services to your MySpace friends as often as you can, in a reasonable manner.  Keep in mind MySpace has safeguards in place to prevent spamming.

3.  Work your MySpace profile.    Having a MySpace profile that features your business is one thing, “working” that profile so it works for your business is something completely different.   Assign someone within your company to manage your profile on a daily basis.  It’s important that they add friends, post comments, post bulletins, write blog articles and send and receive messages. Don’t assume that by creating a MySpace profile, millions of people will find you.  The art of social networking is just that – networking socially within a site like MySpace by reaching out, making friends and interacting with those friends as often as possible.   Also, aside from foul language or inappropriate content, don’t be afraid to allow people to post public comments about your organization on your MySpace page.  A big draw for social networking is the ability to be real, to speak your mind and say how you feel.  If you allow only positive comments about your business to be posted, you lose credibility.  But if you allow people to speak their minds, you gain credibility while learning a lot about your customers – and your business – in the process.

4.  Let your MySpace friends become your own marketing army.    Certain MySpace customization websites like SpaceGravy.com ( http://www.SpaceGravy.com ) for example, now offer a service where they will create layouts and other designs, such as backgrounds, extended network banners, contact tables, graphics, glitter graphics and flash widgets, that feature a particular business, product or service (in this case, up-and-coming bands).  These designs, showcased prominently throughout SpaceGravy.com, are available for free download to any MySpace, MyYearBook, Xanga, Friendster or Virb user.    Not only do participating bands get excellent marketing exposure at SpaceGravy.com, they get excellent marketing exposure from the various social networking users who customize their profiles with the band’s layouts.  Aside from bands, virtually any type of small or large business can take advantage of this service.   Bottom line – by offering free MySpace designs that feature your business, your MySpace friends, and MySpace users in general, become your very own marketing army.

5.  Use MySpace Ads.    MySpace Ads, similar to Google AdSense, allows you to promote your business by targeting your advertising to MySpace users for a fraction of the cost of traditional online advertising.   MySpace Ads is an online advertising program available through MySpace that allows you to create ads featuring your business, target those ads to a specific group of MySpace users you choose based on demographics information, spend only the money you want based on your budget, and then closely monitor the performance of your campaign with detailed reporting provided through your MySpace Ads account.   Depending on the size and specifications, you can use your own ads or use MySpace’s pre-made ad templates and you never pay more than the budget you originally determine at the outset of the campaign, according to the company.   Businesses on a budget should consider MySpace Ads as an affordable online advertising alternative.

Keyword Research and Pay-Per-Click (PPC) For Beginners

Written by Lock on October 23, 2008 – 6:25 pm

Cyber Income Solutions

Internet Marketing specialist Mike Hill recognizes how beginners can be intimidated by the various skills needed to succeed online. That is why he believes that qualified mentors and coaches have a duty to demystify the terminology and break down the technical steps into manageable chunks.

Using Keyword Research to Establish Presence.

Hill offers simple advice for people struggling with keyword use and niche selection: choose a keyword or keyphrase in your niche (e.g. weight loss) and perform a search based on websites where relevant information is likely to be found. Consider the following example:
“weight loss” FAQ
“weight loss” Forum
“weight loss” blog
Take a look at the most popular websites and key in on how experts market their products and services in your niche. Then, craft a winning plan that takes the best of what’s already out there and combine it your outstanding ideas.

Give Writing an Honest Effort!

Use article marketing with your keyword research to bolster your search engine rankings. Writing articles is far from a free ride, but there are possibilities that go way beyond the stale, plodding image of years past. Consider the following:
PowerPoint-based videos (with or without voice-overs) and uploading them to YouTube and other repositories.
Audio podcasts based on articles to iTunes.
Text submissions to article directories, ezines, etc.
Pay-Per-Click Ideas.

Mike Hill suggests that 75% of all organic traffic generated from keywords comes from the top two positions on the first page. Achieving such a high ranking is a daunting task for seasoned professionals let alone newbies. So, are Google AdWords and other paid advertising options worth the trouble and expense?

Before spending any money, Hill suggests taking the following steps:
Check out the direct competition to your offers/website, so that it’s easier for your ads to get onto their pages (e.g Google AdSense).
Do keyword research using words with quotes, without quotes, and hard brackets.
Negate “free” on your filters to eliminate casual browsers and “tire clickers”.
When you are ready, Mike recommends using one keyword with two separate ads to get higher click-through rates (CTR). Tie your advertising and list-building together, since subscribers can give you feedback on things you missed or should have left out from your campaigns.

Concluding Thoughts.

Mike Hill says that people who believe entrepreneurship is the path to financial independence must embrace “business” thinking. There is no substitute for planning ahead, because money follows and rewards speed. Mike’s own breakthrough was in large part due to two years of diligent testing and performance tracking.

Unfortunately, few beginners view success as a scalable concept. As a result, most internet marketers end up with nothing to show for their efforts, or at best become one-hit wonders. Without a system to follow, activity is focused solely on the “last” best idea - not structures, plans, goals, nor strategies.

What’s the solution? Concentrate on what you are doing now…and always keep the big picture in mind. Hill recommends that we focus on communicating with others and thinking about the best way to help people. Only then will the money follow.

Over Analysis Paralysis

Written by Lock on June 27, 2008 – 11:37 am

Stop wasting time! Stop wasting time on the little things and focus your energy on things that make money! This is the key to success!!! Really!

Over analysis paralysis - it happens to the best of us.

It is usually a result of information overload. I know all about it - it happens to me all the time!

The best way to get out of this rut is to take a step back and simplify what you do.

Spend your time on the tasks that bring you the greatest return.

9 times out of 10 a lot of what we spend time ANALYZING does not affect our bottom line. It’s nothing more than “busy work” that wastes time.

So how you get out of the over analysis paralysis mode???

The solution is to focus as much energy as is possible on doing the things that really makes us money.

It sounds so simple - but we all get distracted. Email - web pages - audio - video - all that stuff is vying for our attention.

I’m not suggesting you abandon all of the things you do - BUT _ what I am saying is that you can be more successful and you can do this by simply focusing on things that have been proven to work!

In the case of the Article Underground approach to web publishing the following are things that work!

1) Build Web Sites with lots of pages with great words on them - more is better! Keep sites fresh! Add new pages regularly! Every page you add is another income opportunity! If 10 is good 20 is better! Don’t just put up a few pages and then forget the site. Keep it fresh!

2) Get text links - lots of text links to both the home pages of your sites and the inside article pages that have all those great words on them! Links bring top rankings and traffic! You need fresh links! Today and in the future! Every page has the potential to rank on top and bring you traffic! But unless you get good links coming in and pointing at them they will never rise above the competition! Get some links!

3) Analyze stats to see where traffic comes from - this one is huge! Study your stats! It is my secret weapon and makes all your other work pay off HUGE!

Our goal is to improve the rankings for keywords that already bring us traffic! This one is HUGE! You have the power to turn 10 visitors into 100 - often simply by getting a few more text focused links pointing at a page that already is ranking high enough to bring traffic. Make it rank higher! It’s easier than you may think!

The key to success is to avoid wasting time… stop analyzing things that have no impact on success. Forget about all the other little time wasters and tiny trivial things and focus on what works!

For example - checking your rankings for a list of keywords just because you want to know their rankings is a waste of time - I say ONLY check rankings of keywords that bring you traffic - other keywords are worthless - stop wasting time on trivial things!

You find out which keywords bring you traffic by analyzing your stats and looking at the referral URLs!

This will show you where you rank on the search engines. If you get 10 visits and you ranked #25 for “keyword phrase” - guess what - a few more links with “keyword phrase” will most likely boost your ranking and you’ll get more visits! The closer to the top you are - the more traffic you get! If you see a keyword phrase brings you 10 visitors a day and you are NOT at the top - spend some time moving it up! It’s easy when you know this little secret!

So to summarize the AU approach - spend time putting up great pages with lots of good words - get some high quality text links to your best pages and then focus on bringing up your rankings for keywords that ALREADY bring you traffic!

If you do those things you won’t be wasting time and you WILL see results!

That’s the key to stop getting lost in OVER ANALYSIS PARALYSIS!!!

Focus your energy on the things that get the biggest payback!

Writers - Make Money with a Blog

Written by Lock on June 12, 2008 – 1:35 am

Writing is a career where one can become an overnight success or keep struggling for years without making any money and possibly end up changing to another career. There are problems trying to find an publisher to accept and publish your book or novel or a magazine editor to print your article or column. Hopefully this situation may not arrise often in this day and time, thanks to the internet.

Years ago, people in the writing profession had to depend on others to earn; today’s writers may now produce an income from their writing by switching their passion to write into a business. Difficult as it might sound, this effort may indeed constitute an easy-to-achieve possibility with the use of the internet and blogs. Amazing, as it might appear, you will be able to make money with a blog by just whipping up your hidden writing talent.

If you are new to the internet and don’t know what a blog is, or you’ve been working on or surfing the internet for years, making money with a blog is a possibility that you’ll be able to accomplish with a little planning. Here are a few tips that should be able to help you:

1. Earn working with Google - What once constituted merely a search engine Google now comprises one of the the worlds most powerful enterprises, not only in terms of its reach, but also in terms of its income generating possibilities. You will be able to earn from Google by utilizing their free service called AdSense. All that’s required of you is to have a blog and sell space on your page for advertisements to be posted by AdSense. The service would then permit you to show ad units - ad boxes - that would show ads associated with the subjects you write on in your blog.

For example, you wrote about the piano you just brought, then the ad unit probably would show ads about pianos. When your visitors click on any of these ads, you’d get paid a certain amount. Once your income reaches one hundred dollars, You would then receive a check. 2. Advertise additional Profitable Web Sites- numerous online businesses offer affiliate programs. These programs work by you having their advertisements placed on your blog. When a visitor clicks the ad and makes a purchase from that company the ad represents, you would earn a commission or a referral fee. Many gurus in internet marketing run such programs including large corporations like Amazon.com, eBay and many others. The income you are able to earn varies depending on each company’s payment policies.

3. Sell Ads - The downside of Google advertisements and affiliate programs is you don’t actually have much control over your income and the ads that are showed on your blog. If you would like to play more seriously in the ad marketing game, then you could apply BlogAds’ free databases where you will be able to set your own price for advertisers to place ads on your blog. Several companies search for blogs that match their products and services and rent ad space the same as they do when using those traditional billboards you see along the freeways. Your ad space could then be leased for a certain time period. You would have to pay twenty percent of your income to BlogAd.

4. Donations - several blogs have donation buttons on them. And admittedly, numerous enthusiastic fans and visitors might be willing to make a contribution as a sign of appreciation for your well-written, compelling, and informative blog. Donation buttons are available from PayPal, the renowned online internet service, who would receive a fee for this service when people decide to make a donation. Like options are extended by Amazon and BitPass.

5. Open an Online shopping mall - if your blog becomes so popular that thousands of visitors from all over the world visit it daily. Then you might benefit from that traffic by marketing gifts and souvenirs. And the good news is you would not have to place your logo on those gifts, T-shirts or baseball caps. CafePress would do it for you. CafePress extends to sell for you anything from those precious buttons to defying outerware. The asking price is up to you; you only have to pay the base price of the merchandise.

Making money with a blog is not as difficult as it appears. But naturally like any adventure to make money, you have be be good at doing your job. Keep learning and never give up and You will have the potential to make big earnings utilizing your blog .
