A young New Hampshire mother is facing charges after police say she gave birth to a baby in the woods early Monday morning and then waited nearly an hour to lead police to the newborn’s location.

Manchester Police responded to the area of ​​the West Side Arena shortly before 1 a.m. to reports of a woman who had given birth to a baby in the woods. according to the police. Officers searched the area where the baby’s mother directed them, but were unable to find the child.

After nearly an hour, the mother, Alexandra Eckersley, 26, revealed the baby’s true location and led officers to the area, police said. There, police found the baby and transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment.

There is no information on the condition of the newborn child.

Eckersley was arrested on a felony charge of reckless conduct, as well as an unrelated charge out of Concord County District Court of endangering the welfare of a child.

Officials have not said if they will schedule a court date.
