Ghanaian Michael Essien, the former Chelsea, Real Madrid and AC Milan midfielder, believes that the Egyptian Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool winger, deserves better recognition, but he stressed that Liberian George Weah is the best in the history of Africa.

Essien is in Egypt to participate in the launch of the Right to Dream Academy.

Salah has been providing amazing levels with Liverpool since joining the team in 2017, and he ranked fifth in the 2022 Golden Ball award.

Essien said, in statements to MBC Egypt, in the early hours of Friday morning, “Mohamed Salah has become a world-class player. He does not despair. Look how he left the English Premier League and then returned to it again.”

He added, “I don’t think that Mohamed Salah was wronged by not receiving the Ballon d’Or yet, but I think he deserves more appreciation, however, such things do not stop Salah, I expect him to continue to break records.”

And about the best between Salah and Senegalese Sadio Mane, the former Liverpool star and Bayern Munich, the Ghanaian star explained, “I do not like to make comparisons, but we are lucky because we see them represent Africa on the European continent, I will not prefer one over the other, because both are good.”

Regarding the best player in the history of Africa, he said, “The brown continent presented great players before Salah. I will choose George Weah because he won everything, and he is the only African who won the Golden Ball.”
