Ahmed Fathi, the player of the Pyramids, revealed that he would not have participated in the shirt of the team if Takis Younias had continued to lead the team technically.
Ahmed Fathi made his first appearance for the Pyramids this season in the 2022 Egypt Cup semi-final win over Zamalek.
Fathi said on Al-Hayat channel: “My problem with Takis Younias was because I traveled to Hajj (7-8 months ago) and since then I haven’t played a single match. His point of view was not to rely on me and I don’t want to speak of him after his departure.”
He added: “Stay at Pyramids if Takis continues? My contract is extended until the end of the season, and with Takis, if all the right backs in the team die, he will replace the left back for me. Don’t imagine the situation he put me in and told me a lot of things I shouldn’t say.”
The 38-year-old full-back has made just 16 appearances for the Pyramids under the Greek coach out of 64 in all competitions.
And he continued: “Returning to Al-Ahly after the injuries? There was no last communication. Al-Ahly is my club and I have a contract with the Pyramids.”
He explained: “I’m 38 years old and some clubs might think they’re taking a risk to sign a player of that age.”
And he added: “Jaime Pacheco told me two days before the match that he trusted me and asked me about the possibility of participating, as he had spoken to the administration about me. Maybe another coach didn’t include me.”
Fathi wore the shirt of Al-Ahly in 351 matches, during which he scored 24 goals and made 63, during which he won 22 titles.
And he spoke about the match, saying: “The conditions of the match were difficult from the first 10 minutes until the end and the whole team was fully focused.”
And he continued: “Abdullah Al Said’s position is difficult and I did not expect that he would be replaced, and he accepted the matter normally and did not leave the Cairo Stadium during the match.”
He continued: “I want to win a title with Pyramids before I make a decision to continue my career or retire.”
And he continued: “I have not lost with Al-Ahly a single title in the Egyptian league in my entire career with the team.”
The Pyramids await the winner of the Al-Ahly and Smouha match tonight, Tuesday, to meet them in the final of the 2022 edition of the Egypt Cup.
He concluded: “A return to the Egyptian national team? I want to come back. Dani Alves and Thiago Silva, aged 38 and 39, played in the last World Cup.”
The right-back has made 134 appearances since joining the Egyptian national team for the first time in 2002 and wore the Pharaohs armband in two matches at the 2018 World Cup, in addition to three African Cup of Nations victories.
