Al-Ittihad turned the tables on Al-Ahly Bank and overcame a 2-0 deficit in the first half to win 3-2 in the match held at the Cairo Stadium for the 14th round of the Egyptian League.

National Bank went ahead through Nasser Mansi and Salifo Moro (reverse goal) and the gap leader turned the score around with goals from Christopher Mabululu, Mahmoud Alaa and Austin Amoto.

It is the second time Al-Ittihad have overcome a first-half deficit to win the league this season, after meeting Al-Talaa Al-Jaish in the third round.

Amir Abdel Aziz lost his first match as National Bank coach after replacing the departed Helmi Tolan.

Al-Ittihad returned to winning ways after 3 consecutive losses and a draw to climb to sixth place with 22 points.

While Al-Ahly Bank went without a win for the fourth game in a row and fell to fifteenth place with 12 points, a point behind the relegation positions.

The duo of Mahdi Suleiman and Mahmoud Alaa returned to the starting line-up for the Al-Ittihad side after an absence due to injury.

Nasser Mansi led the bank attack.

Description of the match

The match started strongly and Mohamed Hilal hit a powerful ball that went wide of the left post in the 12th minute.

The gap leader began to control the flow of the game, and in the 24th minute Ibrahim Hassan found himself alone in the penalty area and hit a powerful ball that Abu Jabal punched away.

After 5 minutes, Sabri Raheel sent a cross from a set piece into the penalty area, which Salifu Moro hit, but his ball went over Abu Jabal’s post.

Moreau squandered another opportunity with a header that went wide of the right post in the 39th minute.

The federation’s missed opportunities found a strong response from landlords.

Asim Salah’s cross and Nasser Mansi’s header found goalkeeper Mahdi Suleiman and found the back of the net in the 41st minute.

So Nasser Mansi scored his first goal in the league this season.

Two minutes later, Mahmoud Abdel Aziz came off and Mohamed Mahmoud replaced him in his first appearance in a Zaim Al-Tahr shirt since joining on loan from Al-Ahly.

In the third minute of added time, Moro Salifu scored a goal, but in his own net after a corner for the National Bank.

The reverse was the sixth in the Egyptian league this season and the second for Al-Ittihad.

National Bank ended the first half leading 2-0.

The gap leaders turned things around in the second half when Mabululu’s header hit the right post in the 51st minute.

Two minutes later, the Angolan scored to reduce the gap after Abu Jabal’s aerial lift from Ahmed Adel’s cross.

And in the 62nd minute, Mahmoud Kaoud diverted attention from the goal line, equalizing for the visitors, after a header from Mahmoud Alaa.

However, Al-Ittihad stepped up their attack with Ibrahim Adel’s intricate cross and Mahmoud Alaa’s header in the 66th minute.

The goal is Alaa’s first in a Zamalek shirt and his first in the league for 615 days, with the last goal he scored in a Zamalek shirt coming against Enpi in the 22nd round of the 2020-2021 season.

Moro Salifu shone in the 84th minute, blocking Nasser Mansi’s shot from the penalty area before hitting the net.

In the 89th minute, substitute Austin Amoto took advantage of Amir Medhat, the National Bank defender, and smashed a ball into the ground to the left of Abu Jabal himself, announcing the third goal and a comeback for the Alexandrian team.

The goal was the Nigerian’s third in the league this season, ending his quick 11-game scoring run.

Al-Ittihad footballers increased their goal, so the match ended with a victory for the difference leader for the first time, after 4 matches post.
