Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski has revealed the reason behind the signal for which he was sent off against Osasuna.

And Lewandowski was sent off after he appeared to object to the referee’s decision after displaying the yellow card in a joint ball with the Osasuna defender.

Barcelona snatched the victory against Osasuna with two goals to nothing in the match that was held outside its stadium in the 14th round of the Spanish League.

Lewandowski commented on the matter to the press after receiving the European Golden Boot award, saying: “It’s funny, the reference was originally to Xavi Hernandez (technical director).”

He added, “We talked last week about getting a yellow card, so I remembered it after the referee showed me the card. I looked at him and directed this reference to him and not to the referee, in the end it was my fault.”

The Polish Robert Lewandowski, the former Bayern Munich and current Barcelona striker, won the Golden Boot award for the best scorer in Europe for the 2021-2022 season.

This is the second time that the Pole won the award, after the 2020-21 season, both with the German Bavarian.

Leva excelled at the top thanks to scoring 35 goals that gave him 70 points, surpassing his peers.

Leva tied with Ezebio, Gerd Muller, Dudu Grecchio, Fernando Gomes, Elie Macquist, Mario Jardel, Thierry Henry, Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez with two awards.
