Carlos Queiroz, coach of the Iran national team, mocked a political question he was asked at the press conference.
Queiroz responded to a reporter who asked him if he was comfortable with cynically representing a nation that suppresses women’s rights.
Queiroz said in response to that question: “How much do you pay me to answer this question?”
“Talk to your boss and at the end of the World Cup I can give you the answer if you give me a good offer,” Queiroz told a Sky journalist.
Queiroz went on to talk about Britain, saying: “Think about what happened in your country in terms of immigration.”
And he continued, referring to the players campaigning against racism in England, “You – he means in England – take a knee in matches.”
“Some people agree and others don’t, and in Iran it’s the same,” he concluded.
Iranian football stars Ali Daei and Javad Nekounam were FIFA’s invitations to attend the World Cup competitions in solidarity with the protesters.
Iran is witnessing several demonstrations that have killed more than 300 people and arrested 14,825 others, according to Sky Network.
This comes as a result of the death of a 22-year-old woman after she was detained by the police for not adhering to the strict dress code in the country.
