Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri stressed that his team’s move to the European Conference League is due to the loss from Mittelland.
Lazio was eliminated from the European League after finishing third in its group by goal difference. (See details)
Sarri told Sky Sports after the match: “The team’s style was good throughout the game, we knew that in some moments we would be under pressure, but we did not suffer much.”
Lazio lost 1-0 to Feyenoord to take third place.
He added, “What should have been held responsible, is that we created 5 chances to score the opponent’s net, and we did not take advantage of any of them, so we were punished.”
He continued, “I saw the team today alive, ready to fight a battle with a good ball. Today we do not deserve to lose, it was a tied match and the team did not disappoint me tonight.”
He continued about Luca Romero’s expulsion, “The referee counted 6 minutes of lost time and we barely played football during that period.”
The young Argentine hit the ball towards the stands in the last minute of the match, and the referee showed him the second yellow card and expelled him from the field.
He continued about regret after moving to the European Conference League, saying: “The draw with Strom Graz was good, and we could have beaten them without a red card. We played a completely wrong match in Denmark, and that’s why we are third now.”
Lazio lost to Mittelland in Denmark 5-1, which affected the team in the group standings and led to its exit on goal difference.
“We left because of the Maitieland game, we can deal with that loss in the Italian league, but in the European League one game makes you give up everything, especially when you play on the goal difference.”
Lazio is preparing to face Roma in the Italian league next Sunday in the capital’s derby at the Olympic Stadium.
