Tony celebrates his goal against Manchester City – Brentford

Evan Toney, Brentford’s top scorer, has been charged by the Football Association with misconduct.

The FA stated that Tony broke the law and bet 232 times in 4 years, between February 25, 2017 and January 23, 2021.

Tony, 26, has scored 10 Premier League goals this season but missed out on a place in England’s World Cup squad.

Brentford replied

“The club is in discussions with Ivan and his legal representatives. These discussions will continue in private. We will not be making any further comment until the matter is finalized,” Brentford said in a statement in response to the FA.

The FA gave the Brentford striker until November 24 to respond to the charges against him.

The rules of the FA prohibit the participation of players or any elements of the game in betting on matches.

Newcastle player Kieran Trippier was previously suspended for 10 weeks by the Football Association in December 2020 for providing information to others to bet on his transfer from Tottenham to Atletico Madrid at that time.
