Manchester United coach Eric Ten Hag expressed his frustration with the team’s second place in their European League group, despite their 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad.

United needed an additional goal to secure the top spot, but this goal was not scored.

“You don’t always get what you deserve. This is football,” Ten Hag told BT Sport.

“Today we won and I’m happy with that and happy with some other things like Donny van de Beek’s comeback and Alejandro Garnacho’s performance,” he added.

“Of course we are disappointed because we did not score the two goals and that is what we needed,” he explained.

“We need options. Anthony is not available, and so are Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho.”

And about his tactical adjustments, especially Harry Maguire’s participation as a striker in the last minutes, he said: “I did it to increase the offensive players, but I think at this moment there was some rush, we were not good with the ball and we got it less into the penalty area.”

Alejandro Garnacho scored the only goal of the match from Cristiano Ronaldo, and United’s only shot was on target throughout the match.

This is Garnacho’s seventh participation, and his second as a starter, during which he scored his first official goal with the team.
