Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has praised England’s Jack Grealish for his impressive performance in their 2-0 win over Chelsea in the League Cup.

Grealish, 28, is expected to join the final squad for the England national team, to be announced by coach Gareth Southgate later on Thursday, in anticipation of participating in the World Cup in Qatar.

Grealish posed a serious threat to Chelsea goalkeeper Edward Mendy, and played a pivotal role in his team’s victory in the absence of Belgian colleagues Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden.

Guardiola said: “Jack Grealish was a magician against Chelsea, he played great, I want Grealish to take responsibility when he plays alongside Kevin De Bruyne or Phil Foden.”

“When he gets the ball and attacks from behind, he always wants to pass to his teammates.”

“We always tell him to go ahead and score goals, he has body language to pass the ball, but in the Chelsea match his body language indicated his desire to score goals, he didn’t score, but one day he will, Jack plays great,” Guardiola said.
