Prince Harry claims to be entering his leaked new memoir Spare that he was never an actual best man at Prince William’s wedding in 2011 and it was a ploy for the media.

To the outside world, Prince Harry was the official best man and even drove the then-Prince Charles and William to Westminster Abbey in a Bentley that day. according to the Daily Mail.

But Harry said it was all an act and that two of Prince William’s best friends, James Mead and Thomas Van Straubenzi, gave the traditional reception speech.

Harry also wrote about how Prince William met and greeted people who had gathered in the mall next to Buckingham Palace while he was “drunk on last night’s rum” just hours before his wedding to Kate.

Harry allegedly told his brother: “You smell like alcohol” before offering him a mint as he rolled down the car windows.

“spare” is will hit American shelves on January 10. Leaked excerpts have been circulating since the book was accidentally released in Spain three days ago.

The memoir is dedicated to Harry’s wife Meghan Markle, their children Archie and Lilibeth and his late mother Princess Diana.
