FIFA announced today, Friday, that Qatar will ban the sale of beer in and around the eight World Cup stadiums during the tournament.

FIFA said in a statement two days before the opening match of the tournament, “Following discussions between the authorities of the host country and FIFA, the decision was taken regarding the focus of the sale of alcoholic beverages during the FIFA Fan Festival, other fan destinations and licensed venues, and the removal of beer sales points from the vicinity of the 2022 World Cup stadiums.” .

FIFA stated that non-alcoholic beer will still be available in stadiums.

Earlier reports stated that there was an agreement to sell beer in the areas between security checks and ticket checks in stadiums, especially since one of the sponsors of the tournament is a beer selling company.

It is noteworthy that alcoholic beverages are not prohibited in Qatar, but their sale is limited to bars and restaurants in some hotels.
