Two of the newer “Star Trek” series are set to have a crossover, just not the ones you might think.

Revealed as part of the Paramount+ “Star Trek” panel at San Diego Comic-Con, it seems some cast members from the animated “Star Trek: Lower Decks” will be making their way over to the live-action “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”.

Actors Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid, who play Ensigns Beckett Mariner and Brad Boimler respectively on ‘Lower Decks’, crashed a panel where Anson Mount, who plays Captain Pike on ‘Strange New Worlds’, revealed the news.

Both Newsome and Quaid will reportedly get to play their characters in live-action form in an episode of the recently wrapped production second season of ‘Strange New Worlds’ and reprise their animated forms at some point during their appearance.

How that will happen isn’t clear, and neither is the time difference as the events of ‘Strange New Worlds’ unfold around the year 2260 in Trek lore, while ‘Lower Decks’ is set firmly around 2380. One thing for sure is that Jonathan Frakes will reportedly direct the episode.

Paul Wesley will also be popping up again as James T. Kirk in the new season which will likely debut in 2023. A third season of “Star Trek: Lower Decks” meanwhile is set to arrive on August 25th and it was revealed at Comic- Con that several “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” will be appearing on that show.
