Syed Abdel Hafeez, Al-Ahly’s director of football, said that his team played the top game against Zamalek with a 2-8 plan, which shows that the club’s management will not abandon Mahmoud Abdel Moneim “Kahraba”, the team’s player who is threatened again with hanging.
Al-Ahly beat their hosts Zamalek 3-0 at the Cairo Stadium yesterday evening, Saturday, in the 14th round of the Egyptian Premier League.
Al-Ahly consolidated their lead in the Egyptian league standings with this win as they have 34 points, 4 points ahead of their nearest chasers Future and 8 points ahead of Zamalek, the fourth title holders.
Al-Ahly returned to winning ways after drawing with Al-Masri Al-Port Said in the 13th round.
Abdel Hafeez told Mega FM radio today, Sunday: “We beat Zamalek five times last season but ended up losing the league title. We have to learn from our mistakes. Our first goal this season is to regain the title after an absence of two years. “
He added: “We didn’t play a 4-3-2-1 against Zamalek, but rather played a 2-8 in the second half with a lot of players getting forward in search of a goal.”
And he continued: “We don’t just play in possession but we wanted to be effective in goal and Kohler is credited with his wonderful technical vision in games.”
And when asked about the secret to pushing Khaled Abdel-Fattah into the heart of the defense amid the absence of the trio of Yasser Ibrahim, Mohamed Abdel-Moneim and Mahmoud Metuali, he replied: “Koller discusses with the people around him, but he is the one who makes decisions. Following Abdel-Fattah’s matches with Smouha, we found that he is good at playing that position and in the end, the player Toi had a great game against Zamalek.”
And of Kahraba’s brilliance following his return from suspension, the director of football commented: “If he had scripted his own return from suspension, he wouldn’t have been able to stage that script, but I always want continuity.”
And he continued: “All I can say about Kahraba’s case is that Al-Ahly will not abandon him.”
Kahraba was suspended for a period of 6 months, which ended on January 11, due to his crisis with Zamalek, but returned to surprise everyone with his brilliance in both Smouha’s matches in the Egyptian Cup and Zamalek in the league.
Kahraba, who hadn’t played an official game in around 8 months, scored twice and did the same in both matches.
Al-Ahly prepare to meet Al-Ahly Bank the day after tomorrow, Tuesday, at the Cairo Stadium, in the 15th round of the league.
Regarding this match, Abdel Hafeez said: “The match against Al-Ahly Bank is one of the very difficult points in Al-Ahly’s career this season because we want to maintain the points gap with Budeshte and Zamalek before the Club World Cup.”
Al-Ahly will play Oakland City next February 1 in the preliminary round of the Club World Cup in Morocco.
