We have our first new number 1 in the UK Boxing Charts and it’s Nintendo with its turn-based strategy RPG Fire Emblem Engage.

The title’s launch sales are 31% lower than what its predecessor (2019’s Fire Emblem Three Houses) managed. The new game has a more anime-style look to the graphics, which may have limited its Western appeal slightly. But even so, it’s still the series’ second biggest launch in the UK, ahead of 3DS cult hit Fire Emblem Awakening.

This means FIFA 23 drops to second place after a 21% drop in weekly sales, while God of War Ragnarok is down to number 3 with a 26% drop. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe takes 4th place with a 3% increase in sales on a weekly basis, while the Top 5 is completed by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which falls two places after a 29% sales decline.

The biggest riser of the week is The Last of Us Part 1, which returns to the charts at number 20 with a 238% jump in sales for the week. The game is boosted by the new TV series based on the title, which is available to watch in the UK via Sky Atlantic.

The PS4 version of the game, The Last of Us: Remastered, also re-entered the charts at number 32 with a 322% jump in sales.

Other big boosts include Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. The 2017 game is in 12th place this week with a 104% increase in sales. This is due to the fact that the game retails for £11 in stores such as Argos and Amazon.

Battlefield 2042 is back in 25th place with sales up 177%. Again, this was because the title was available for £10 from Argos and Amazon. And The Callisto Protocol returns to the charts at number 16. The horror game based on the Dead Space series has seen sales rise by 83% after its price dropped to £30 at some retailers.

Here is the GfK UK Boxed Top Ten for the week ending 21 January 2023:
