The Liverpool club have completed their first deals of the winter, securing the services of Dutchman Cody Jacobo from Eindhoven to bolster their attacking ranks ahead of the second half of the season.

PSV have announced that they have reached an agreement with Liverpool over the transfer of Iacobo, the 23-year-old striker, who will soon travel to England for a medical before the deal is officially completed.

English reports suggest that the Jakpo deal will fetch Liverpool an estimated £50m, including bonuses and some other add-ons.

Liverpool didn’t wait long for the Jacbo deal to be settled after their manager Jurgen Klopp was pushy and decisive in signing the Dutchman, in light of the injuries that have hit the Reds recently on the offensive front.

Liverpool have lost the likes of Luis Diaz and Diego Hota this term through injury, forcing the club’s management to find an alternative in the January transfers.

Jakpo drew attention to himself at the 2022 World Cup and scored 3 goals with the Dutch national team.

Cody Jacobo played 24 games for PSV in all competitions this season, scoring 13 goals and providing 17 assists.

And Britain’s Daily Mail reported that Manchester United were in talks with Iacob to sign him before Liverpool pulled off the deal.

She added that United had been preferred to complete the deal, but the final touches on the financial offer had not been completed.

And the same newspaper points out that ongoing talk of a possible sale of Manchester United casts doubt on the funds available to conclude new deals.

She pointed out that this issue worries PSV officials, especially since United’s owners do not want to spend heavily in light of their desire to sell the club.

“At the moment I haven’t heard anything from Manchester United, but if an offer comes I will think and seek God’s help,” Giacobo said earlier this month after being linked with a move to United.

He added: “I thought about Manchester United last summer but the deal didn’t happen.”

Liverpool’s decision to sign Jakpo is a coup for the Reds as described by the English press, especially after the Red Devils’ owners re-signed the talented Dutchman.
